Be careful with your check selfies #StealMyIdentity A tip for users of Twitter and Instagram : selfies not publish their paychecks. Federal prosecutors in Minnesota on Tuesday announced charges against 28 people accused of participating in a conspiracy to cash fake checks with bank data collected from sources including photos of Instagram .

Police officials say the group scored account numbers and bank routing information of victims by finding Instagram photos with the hashtag #myfirstpaycheck.

A search for that hashtag on photo-sharing service ( Instagram ) this Wednesday produced about 300 results, many with bank checks data clearly visible.

The defendants allegedly used the stolen information to open bank accounts and produce counterfeit checks and cash. In other cases, allegedly stole physical checks of individuals and businesses.
