According to The Wall Street Journal , the authorities have repeatedly asked them to wireless operators and device manufacturers to adopt new technologies designed to prevent theft, but so far there has been little evidence that any of their efforts have had some impact.

A statistic taken by the publication indicates that the remote locking method that has the iPhone has helped somewhat decreased amount of this equipment theft.

Samsung introduced a switch device for S5 Galaxy in April, so it will be some time before its effect on burglary rates can be evaluated.

A switch of this kind is a software that allows consumers to block one phone after the device has been reported stolen; the user can activate the phone only with password or correct personal identification number. That makes it difficult to sell on the black market.
