Songdo new high-tech city
This experimental city is called by some as a “city in a box”, because of its dependence on technology. Songdo City is built with intelligent technologies, which are very much part of their DNA, the city is located next to Seoul and is considered as one of the high-tech capital of the world.
Building a city from scratch offers opportunities but also presents challenges. In South Korea, the first part of this challenge is to create an even smarter than what the Koreans are accustomed city.
For example, the Seoul Subway and offers Wi-Fi high speed, it is easy to send emails or watch videos while you walk down the street, no electronic panels at the outputs of the train, that expose timeouts for the connection between collective and companies like Samsung are already working on linking household appliances to mobile phone.
At the forefront of technology, a completely new town offers the opportunity to build a futuristic hardware. Songdo is designed with sensors to monitor temperature, energy use and traffic. These sensors can tell, in theory, personally, when your group is coming. Or report any problems to the local authorities.
Many of these innovations are designed taking into account the environment – with charging stations for electric cars, for example, or a water recycling system that prevents the water used in the toilets in an office.
The waste disposal system is also impressive. No garbage trucks on the streets or large containers scattered buildings.
Instead, all household waste is sucked directly from the individual kitchens through a vast network of tunnels up to a processing center, where garbage is sorted, deodorizes and is about as respectful as possible to the average atmosphere. All automatically.
