The online censorship in China, how does it work?
Weibo is considered the Asian version of Twitter, the microblogging platform that allows you to publish short messages, and even is much larger than its U.S. counterpart, with over 500 million users.
Located in cubicles, operators are usually men, with shifts covering 24 hours in different shifts, with low female presence, due to rejection involving moderate offensive material. On average they are 20 university students, who earn about $ 490 per month.
The moderation of online content generated by Chinese users usually exposed as one of the most sophisticated censorship mechanisms around the world, but little is known about its operation.
However, in an interview with Reuters, four employees of Weibo, one of the most successful online platforms of the Asian giant, unveiled how the selection mechanism and deleting publications.
The automatic moderation Weibo automatically processes the reports, that pass into a state of moderation where operators must approve or delete the contents in a period of 24 hours on average, with an average of 3 million verified post on a daily basis.
