185 Terabytes of SONY’s new storage
To achieve this compression hitherto unpublished Japanese firm created a layer of magnetic crystals fired by argon ions in a base polymer film. Sony created a cassette can store 60 million songs, it has a capacity of 185 terabytes.
Its capacity is 148 gigabytes per square inch, equivalent to more than 300 laptops with a hard drive of 500 GB or 3,700 Blu-Rays.
The product was presented at the International Magnetics Conference in Dresden (Germany). Sony gave no dates yet for commercialization and will now use these tapes to store data at the industry level.
