The team Janelle Wohltmann psychologist, department of psychology at the University of Arizona, United States, provided lessons for using Facebook to 14 older people who had never used this social network or used it less than once a month.
They were taught to use a journal online, in the service Penzu.com and provides preliminary results suggest that people over 65 who learn to use Facebook, could improve on some of their cognitive functions.
Working memory is the ability to manipulate and use information briefly stored in the mind. Is what allows us to remember a phone number. Study participants were aged between 68 and 91 years, with an average age of 79.
The study reveals that there are plenty of scientific literature supporting the idea that people who have more social interaction, feel less alone, feel more support and are more socially integrated, also have better cognitive abilities in old age.
